“Is there more to online games than fun?”
Online games have become accustomed
to the modern generation as a way of entertainment and an educational resource.
However, there is a constant debate as to whether or not there actually “is
more to online games than fun?” Mathletics has become a fantastic resource for online learning, in that it continues to develop a child's mathematical abilities whilst achieving personal learning goals. Teachers are able assign students with personalised tasks to complete in the subtopics of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. When my younger brother, who is currently in year 5, first started playing Mathletics, he didn’t enjoy it, he couldn't understand why someone would have fun doing extra math work. However, overtime he started to enjoy the tasks assigned to
him, especially when he was able to compete against other students from around
the world in multiplication, addition and subtraction races. I believe that in
the past 5 years, online games have become more than just fun, they have been
designed and programmed now so that children are able to have a fun and
engaging learning experience. Designers have been able to incorporate sound and
colour so that children remain engaged as they complete online activities. These
gaming programmes have been able to stimulate a child’s creativity, learning to
achieve goals. By having games that have set goals, it can teach children how
to set their own goals and motivate them to achieve them through mastering the
needed skills and developing a strategic mindset. By changing the traditional
modes of teaching into a more innovative and creative way, children are able to
learn more and develop the capacity to understand and absorb more complex
ideas. Online gaming is today filled with fun facts and activities that
children love because they enjoy playing educational games. (Krotoski, 2010)

this blog covers all aspects of the question which is helpful as readers get the answer to the question "is there more to online games than fun?". This question has been answered well in this blog as it is useful for parents and teachers to gain a better understanding of online games and to engage with the kids. I really like the fact that you have brought your personal experiences with your brother as he is a kid himself and plays these games, which draws me to the last point of the imagery used, which is smart as it draws attention to the readers and backs up your blog.
